My understanding has grown over the past 6 months, but myself and others that have learned of Blockchain and Ethereum always seem to be thirsty for more knowledge. Is there a guide in the works to explain intermediate level concepts such as POW vs. POS? I am currently attempting to understand all the specifics mentioned in the Ethereum Alliance Enterprise gathering, but find myself lost too often during their 7 hour presentation. Thanks again!!
Decentralized cryptocurrency is produced by the entire cryptocurrency system collectively, at a rate which is defined when the system is created and which is publicly known. In centralized banking and economic systems such as the Federal Reserve System, corporate boards or governments control the supply of currency by printing units of fiat money or demanding additions to digital banking ledgers. There is only a limited amount of crypto coins that can be mined, and once these have all been mined, there will simply be no more. So, for example, there are 21 million Bitcoins in total, and once these have all been mined, they will be the only coins in circulation – no further Bitcoins will be added to the system. This is not just apparent to Bitcoins though, and refers to all other Cryptocurrencies.
Bank of New York Mellon Corp (NYSE: BK) has been running an internal blockchain platform for U.S. Treasury bond settlements since early 2016, a Marketwatch report quoting Morgan Stanley said. The private nature of the platform has kept it out of the regulatory purview. Once the bank decides to roll it out to clients and use it commercially, regulatory oversight might come into the picture.
It depends on the power of your computer specifically the graphics card(s). Computers built for gaming or newer PC’s bought in the last year will make the most. Older computers and laptops will be able to mine as well, however not at the same levels as newer ones. On the high end, newer computers can earn $1-3 per day per GPU. (based on today’s value of bitcoin)
Cryptography is an art, not a science. And the state of the art can advance over time. Advances in code cracking, or technical advances such as the development of quantum computers, could present risks to cryptocurrencies and the Ethereum Platform, which could result in the theft or loss of ETH. To the extent possible, Stiftung Ethereum intends to update the protocol underlying the Ethereum Platform to account for any advances in cryptography and to incorporate additional security measures, but it cannot predict the future of cryptography or guarantee that any security updates will be made in a timely or successful manner.
